Pick a Niche

Home-Based Event Planning – Tips for Success February 4th, 2017 When moving into the event planning industry, it is a unique opportunity to get involved with people’s lives whether it is for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, company parties, product launches, or anything else. Since these people want said events to go smoothly, they will hire outside help which is where you come in as an event planner. However, the industry is changing and no longer requires you to work full days in an office with others. Thanks to the internet, more and more people are becoming home-based event planners which gives freedom because there is no boss, no working for another company, and all the rewards are kept alone. Furthermore, you get to set your own hours and work from the comfort of your own home. This being said, it is incredibly hard to gain clients and get a home-based business off the ground so we have some top tips. Pick a Niche – If you have previously looked into becoming an event planner, you will know that there are a variety of events with which you can help. However, home-based businesses generally benefit from picking a niche so this is where you should start. To find this, grab a piece of paper and write down your interests and passions as well as what you have knowledge and experience in. From here, you will know whether it is social or corporate and how many guests you can handle per event. Take a Course – Even if you have previous experience in the corporate world, it can be useful to take a refresher course before jumping into a home-based business. Not only will this help you improve your knowledge, you will also have a certificate or qualification which will give you credibility. When looking, be sure to choose a recognized training institute and you could even go for a qualification given by an appropriate professional body. If you go up against someone who hasn’t got qualifications, you will immediately be better placed to earn clients. Build a Website – In years gone by, having your own website was costly and it took a lot of effort and expertise to set up. However, it is now easy and there is information online that will allow you to set up your own website in less than a day. On the site, you can have a portfolio section to show off your work, testimonials of previous clients, and even post regular blogs to show potential clients that you understand their needs. If you need help, be sure to contact professionals so that your site doesn’t look too amateurish. Tell Everyone – Finally, you need to let everyone know that you are available for event planning services. Whether it is pinning a business card to a local noticeboard, posting on social media, attending events, or even taking part in active forums and groups, you should tell the world that you are available and ready to help. Over time, you will learn the most efficient marketing techniques and clients will start coming! No comments »
